It measures the photo, so you do not have to guess
Most rejected passport photos fail on things you can measure: the head is too small, the eyes sit too low, the background is gray instead of white, or the head is tilted.
After every change the tool re-checks the photo against the rules for the document you picked and shows the result as a list like the one here. Green means it is within the rules. Orange tells you what is off and how to fix it, which usually means retaking the photo with better light.
It does not retouch your face. Passport offices compare the photo with you, so it only crops, straightens and corrects the overall light.
Checks
- Head is about 1.20 in from chin to top of hair. Allowed: 1 to 1⅜ in.
- Eyes are 1.26 in above the bottom edge. Allowed: 1⅛ to 1⅜ in.
- Head is centered.
- Fixed: straightened by 2.4° so the eyes are level.
- Sharp enough for print (412 dpi).
- One side of the background is darker. Turn to face the light so the shadow goes away.

Head height is measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair.

Your photo is not uploaded
Most passport photo sites send your picture to their servers to process it. This one does the work inside your browser: the face detection, the cropping and the print layout all run on your own phone or computer.
That means a photo of your face, or your child’s, never sits on a server you know nothing about. It also means the tool keeps working when your connection is slow.
If you ask for the finished files by email, they pass through our mail server on the way to your inbox and are deleted the moment the email is sent. Privacy policy

- Order the sheet as a normal 4 × 6 in print at a drugstore or photo kiosk, or print it at home on photo paper.
- Print at 100%. Switch off “fit to page” and auto-enhance.
- Measure the scale line on the sheet with a ruler before you cut.
Common questions
How does it work?
You take or choose a photo, pick the country or document, and the tool does the rest: it finds your face, turns the photo so your eyes are level, crops it so your head is the size the rules ask for, and places the copies on a sheet you can print. You can drag and zoom the photo yourself if you want it a little different.
Is it free?
Yes. Making the photo, the print sheet and the file for online forms costs nothing, and there is no watermark. The only thing you pay for is the print itself, which is the price of one normal 4 × 6 photo at a drugstore or photo kiosk.
How do I take a photo that will be accepted?
- Stand about 2 feet in front of a plain white or light wall, so your shadow does not fall on it.
- Face a window or a lamp, so the light hits your face evenly from the front.
- Ask someone to hold the phone 4 to 5 feet away, level with your eyes. Selfies bend the face, and some offices reject them.
- Leave space around your head and shoulders. The tool does the cropping.
- Look straight at the camera, eyes open, mouth closed. No glasses, no hat, no headphones.
Where can I print the sheet?
Save the sheet as a JPG and order it as a normal 4 × 6 inch photo print at any drugstore, supermarket photo counter or online photo service. It usually costs well under a dollar. You can also print at home on glossy or matte photo paper.
Wherever you print, turn off “fit to page”, “borderless expansion” and automatic enhancement, so the photo comes out at its true size.
Is my photo uploaded to your server?
No. The face detection, cropping and sheet layout all run inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The photo is not sent to us, and we could not look at it if we wanted to. The one exception is if you ask us to email the finished files to you. In that case the files pass through our server on their way to your inbox and are deleted as soon as the email is sent.
